Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said he did not think that China was protecting Low Taek Jho, but hinted at the possibility that the fugitive businessman could be made a bargaining chip by Beijing.

“Well, maybe he’s a bargaining chip or something like that,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

The prime minister is currently in New York to attend the 73rd United Nations General Assembly.
