The youth and sports ministry today announced AirAsia chief Tony Fernandes as the new head of its statutory body, Malaysia Stadium Corporation (MSC).
In a statement, it said his outstanding achievements in various fields such as aviation, entertainment, hospitality and broadcasting had qualified him for the role.
Fernandes, who has won multiple awards including “CEO of the Year” and “Entrepreneur of the Year”, will be responsible for the structure and operations of MSC.
He also faces the challenge of improving MSC’s RM11 million losses.
Last month, nine members of the boards of directors of agencies under the ministry, including from MSC, were sacked.
Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the nine were political appointees who held leadership positions in Umno Youth or were divisional chiefs.
He added that they would be replaced by non-politicians.
