Woman Charged Over ‘False Statement’ On Facebook

A 47-year-old housewife was charged with intentionally uploading a false statement related to the recent seizure of four 30-tonne containers storing halal and non-halal frozen meat together.

Siti Norlidah Mohd Zin pleaded not guilty to the offence when the charge was read out to her before Judge Zainal L. Salleh at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today.

The mother of seven was charged with uploading a false statement with the intention of offending others via a Facebook account bearing the name ‘Yunus Yatim’ on July 21st.

The individual who lodged the police report against her, allegedly claimed to have read the Facebook post at a Starbucks outlet in Bandar Baru Wangsa Maju on August 1st.

The offence falls under the Communications and Multimedia Act, which carries a maximum RM50,000 fine or one-year imprisonment or both, upon conviction.

The court set bail at RM2,000 with one surety and fixed November 6th for mention.
