Malaysia To Continue Sar Operation For Missing Us Sailors

The Royal Malaysian Navy, RMN will continue mobilising assets to search for the eight missing sailors of United States’ navy warship USS John S. McCain despite a temporary standown.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said Malaysia’s decision to resume the operation was to reciprocate US’ assistance  during the search and rescue for the Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 and flight MH17 tragedies.

The US Navy on Thursday has announced suspension of its SAR operations for the sailors who remain missing after the collision between the US destroyer and an oil tanker near Singapore earlier this week.

The multinational 80-hour search effort covered a 2,100-square-mile area east of the Straits of Melaka and Singapore.

RMN personnel have been deployed to comb over 1,000 square nautical miles of search area which includes Teluk Ramunia region.
