Thailand’s Supreme Court has issued an arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, making her a fugitive, like her brother, after she failed to appear for the verdict in a trial, over a rice subsidy scheme.

The court, as well as the current Prime Minister, suspected that she had already fled to avoid appearance, and gone into hiding.

However, Yingluck’s lawyer claimed that she was ill and could not attend the hearing, but did not provide a medical certificate, leading the court to refuse the excuse.
